DIY-Decorative Burp Cloths

Finished Burp Cloths

Saw these on pinterest. Here is the post I based mine off.

I already had tons of fabric scraps and ribbon to choose from, but I did have to buy some matching thread, which I purchased from Jo-anns. Also I already had the burp clothes because I just bleached Hendrix's old ones really well since I'm just making these for Carson. I will definitely be making more of these for some up coming baby showers I have though. It took me about 20 to 30 minutes from start to finish for one.

1) I cut my fabric about 5 to 5 1/2 wide and about 17 inches long. I basically layed the fabric on the folded burp cloth and measured it from there. I did allow for 1/2 inseam along all four sides.  Each burp cloth naturally folds a little different, so I didn't use a standard measurement each time. Then I ironed the fabric well and then turned about 1/2 inch under on all for sides to create a smooth edge.
2) Then I pinned the fabric down the center of the burp cloth.

3) Sewed along the edges of the fabric.
P.S. After this first one I made I kinda of combined this step and step 4. I would pin the ribbon along the edges and then just sew the ribbon and the fabric down all at once. I did this because I didn't like not having perfectly lined up stitch lines on the back of the burp cloth. This way you end up with just two perfect lines down the back instead of potentially 4 lines.
4) Then I pinned the ribbon I wanted to line the edges with onto the burp cloth.  I tried to get half the ribbon on the burp cloth and half of it covering the fabric and to line the pins up with the previous stitches I had made, so there would only be one stitch line on the back of the burp cloth.

5) Sewed down the center of the ribbon with the coordinating thread color to complete the burp cloth.
