DIY-Rag Rug

I saw this idea on pinterest and knew it would be perfect to use up some of my scrap fabric. I gathered up all the yellow, green and blue scrap fabric I had since the rug was going into Hendrix's room. The only other thing you need beside fabric is a rug pad base, which was the only thing I had to purchase for this project. I got mine from walmart (rug department) for about $6. I cut mine in half so my rug ended up being about 2ft x 3ft.
Rug Pad
2ft x 3ft

I cut my strips of fabric 1 inch by 6 inches. I never actually counted how many strips I used, but lets just say I used A LOT. I actually gradually cut my strips during my spare time over a month. I'm not going to lie and say this is a quick one day project.

I used one of my strips as a template and cut around it each time.
So my strips weren't exact, but they don't have to be exact.

Just a small portion of my fabric strips.
Then you just thread your fabric strips through the holes in the mat. You can skips as many holes as you want depending on how full you want the rug to be.

Threaded through the mat.

Underside of the mat. I skipped 2 lines of the mat
in-between each row of fabric strips.

1/4 of the way done.
All Done!!

So soft
